Bingo is a game of chance that is played when the host calls out random numbers to a group of players who then strike off the same numbers that are printed on their game cards.
The bingo card is roughly a 5 inches by 5 inches small piece of card or thick paper which has 25 boxes. Out of the 25 boxes, 24 boxes have a number in them and the centre box is empty.
When the host calls out a number and the player happens to have it on his list, he strikes it off with a dauber. As the game proceeds, he keeps on striking more numbers being called out by the caller.
The object of the game is to strike off as many numbers on the cards as possible to be able to claim a prize according to the rules of that game.
The rules of the games can be changed according to the wishes of the casino or the host calling out the numbers. Mostly, it is done to break monotony and to bring in entertaining value to the game. The game in its classic form entails that one line, either vertically or horizontally or diagonally will need to be to striked off to claim a prize but the hot may introduce newer rules to make it interesting. For instance, the full house rule is where all the number on the card are to be striked out to be proclaimed the winner.
The person who strikes off all the numbers as per the rules of the game must shout BINGO! loud enough to capture the attention of the host. The host will acknowledge the call and come on his own or send an assistant also called the floor walker who will come and inspect your card and if you have correctly marked the card you will be proclaimed as the winner of that round.
As soon as the last number that you strike and it completes your line, you will need to shout out the word before anyone else does. If you do not shout out and the host proceeds to call the next number then the host is not obliged to listen to your claim and you will have to then compete for the next line. The discretion of the host or the number caller is final in this regard and he does and must give a decent amount of time for people to analyze and shout out the word.
First played in the year 1929, the game has garnered a lot of fan following and most of the days that the clubs and the casinos host the game it is to a fully packed game hall. The game can be played in various ways devised and re invented by the particular casino to increase the entertaining value and also to increase the patronage. The numbers of patterns that are possible are innumerable and that is why the game is so enjoyable and fun. Also the ability to manipulate the rules of the game gives it an immense scope of being a great way to an enjoyable time without getting monotonous and boring.
A bingo card is usually a thick paper or a card with a set of twenty five boxes. The same card cannot be used for another game and it is to be used only once. A typical card has natural numbers from one through seventy-five. There is a free box right in the middle of the card and that is to be struck off immediately as soon as the game starts.
For a player to win, he needs to complete one row, one column or a line through the diagonal of the card. Sometimes, casinos like to make their players play longer games called black out Bingo where the player will have to strike off all the 24 numbers on his card to be declared the winner. The winner of the black pot wins a jackpot.
Casinos now have also adopted the computer to generate random numbers in playing Bingo. Even though it is not commonplace yet to see the computers drawing numbers, it looks like all jurisdictions will be set to adopt the technology as soon as law allows for it.
